4L60E Automatic Ratchet Shifter Assembly 80842

Floor-mount ratchet shifter assembly that replaces part number 80842, built for 2, 3 and 4 speed automatics. The ratcheting mechanism is the point: each pull of the handle moves exactly one gear and the handle returns to center, so you cannot blow past a gear or drop it into neutral at the top of second. That is the difference between a ratchet shifter and a gated stick when you are shifting under load and not looking down.

Transmission coverage is broad: GM TH200, TH250, TH350, TH400, 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L70E, 4L75E, 4L80E and 4L85E; Ford C4, C5, C6 and AOD; Chrysler Torqueflite A727, A518, A618, A904, A999 and A500. Construction is a CNC aluminum shift lever on a reinforced housing with heavy-duty mounting hardware.

Read this before you order. A GM 4L60E through 4L85E with a PRNDL switch needs cable bracket 70499 to mount the shift cable correctly - it is not included. A Ford AOD needs kit 40496; a 4R70W needs 40504; an E4OD or 4R100 needs 40505. Check your case and your linkage first. On install, set the shifter so the detent positions line up with the transmission manual valve at each stop, then verify the vehicle starts only in Park and Neutral before you drive it - a shifter that indicates Park but leaves the valve short of it will let the vehicle roll.
