Overhaul kit for the 1997-2003 GM 4L60E with heavy duty frictions, steels, gaskets and seals for a full teardown rebuild on the bench.
This is a complete overhaul kit for the GM 4L60E built between 1997 and 2003 - the 300mm input shaft, PWM lockup era used behind the 4.3L V6, 5.0L, 5.3L and 5.7L V8 in Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Blazer, Astro, Express and S-10 applications. It ships with heavy duty friction plates, matching steels, the gasket set, rubber and Teflon sealing rings, metal clad seals and O-rings you need to close the case back up after a teardown.
The frictions are the reason to buy a kit like this rather than reusing what came out. The 3-4 clutch pack in a 4L60E is the pack that burns first: it carries the load in both 3rd and 4th, it runs on a thin apply piston, and when the pack glazes you get a flare on the 3-4 shift, then a slip under throttle, then no 4th at all. The heavy duty frictions in this kit run a denser paper than the factory plate so they hold apply pressure longer under heat.
Bench sequence is the usual one: pull the pan and valve body, split the case, pull the input drum and the 3-4 pack, and inspect the sun shell and the apply piston bore before you reassemble. Air check every clutch circuit and the servo before the pump goes back on, and set the 2-4 band apply pin with a gauge rather than by feel. Replace the pump rotor and the sun shell separately if either shows wear - they are not part of this kit.
This kit covers the soft parts and frictions only. It does not include hard parts, the torque converter, the pump body, the valve body or solenoids.
