4L60E Full Overhaul Rebuild Kit with Pistons, 1997-2003

This is a full overhaul kit for the 1997-2003 GM 4L60E, the rear-wheel-drive four-speed behind most Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon and S-10 trucks of that era. The same parts also cover the 4L65E and 4L70E that share the case and clutch layout. It is built for a complete teardown, not a reseal: the box carries the gasket and seal set, pan filter, 2-4 band, bushing kit, piston kit and steel plates, eight components in all.

Including the piston kit and steels is what separates this from a basic overhaul kit. On a high-mileage 4L60E the usual failures are a burned 3-4 pack, a worn 2-4 band and cracked or hardened piston seals, and a new set of pistons plus fresh steels means you are not reusing heat-checked plates or hoping old rubber seals hold line pressure.

On the bench, soak the friction material in the ATF you plan to run for at least 30 minutes before assembly, replace every bushing while the unit is apart, and set clutch pack clearances to the range in your service manual. Confirm your build date before ordering: 1997-2003 units use different sealing and pan parts than the 2004-up design.
