4L60E Rebuild Kit with Frictions, Steels and Filter 1993-2004

This is a full soft-parts rebuild package for the GM 4L60E, 1993 through 2004. It combines an overhaul kit (gaskets, O-rings, sealing rings, lip seals and the common small parts) with a friction clutch module and a steel clutch module, plus a deep-pan style filter. That means you are not piecing together a gasket kit from one place and clutch packs from another. It comes with tech sheets for the unit.

The 1993-2004 range covers both the early electronic 4L60E and the 1997-up units with the revised case and harness. Before you order, confirm your build date and whether your truck has the deep pan, and check that the valve body spacer plate gaskets in the box match the plate stamped on yours. Several are included because GM changed the spacer plate more than once in this span.

Typical reasons to open one of these up: 3-4 clutch burned out (no fourth gear, flare or slip on the 3-4 shift), forward or low-reverse clutch wear showing up as a delayed or soft engagement into Drive or Reverse, or a unit that has already been down for a hard-part repair and needs fresh frictions anyway. If the 3-4 pack is cooked, inspect the 3-4 piston and the input housing sealing surfaces before you reuse them. A new pack will not live on a leaking piston.

On the bench, soak every friction in clean ATF for at least 30 minutes before stacking. Measure clutch pack clearance on each pack against the tech sheet and adjust with the selective plate rather than guessing. Replace the pump and extension housing seals while the unit is out, install the new filter and seal, and fill with Dexron VI. Kit weight is about 10 lb.
