4L60E Rebuild Tool Kit: T-0151, Pump Band and Seal Resizer

This set covers three jobs you will run into on every 4L60E or 700R4 teardown, and a stock hand tool cannot do any of them. You get a T-0151 style clutch spring compressor, a stainless front pump alignment band with a wing nut, and a six-piece aluminum installer and resizer set that stands in for J-36418-C and ST-1503.

T-0151 spring compressor: the screw passes through the center of the low/reverse clutch spring assembly in the back of the case. The bar spans the spring cage and the foot sits on the case. Turn the T-handle down until the cage moves off the snap ring, pull the ring, then back the screw off slowly. You use it again on reassembly to seat the ring in its groove.

Pump alignment band: the 4L60E pump is two halves, the body and the cover, held by bolts. If you torque those bolts with the halves off center, the gears bind, the bushing wears out and the pump can leak. Put the band around the outside of both halves, snug the wing nut so the edges line up, torque the bolts, then take the band off.

Seal installer and resizer: the tapered cone slides a new Teflon (PTFE) sealing ring onto the turbine shaft or stator shaft without cutting it. The sizing sleeves then squeeze the stretched ring back down so it sits in its groove and the drum slides on without shaving the ring. It also fits the 700R4, 4L65E, 4L70E, TH350 and TH400. Check each tool against your unit before you use it on a less common case.
