4L60E/4L65E Super Master Rebuild Kit w/Steels & Pistons 2004-Up

This is a super master rebuild kit for the GM 4L60E and 4L65E four-speed automatic, covering 2004 and newer units. It carries the wear parts you replace on a full teardown in one box: a Raybestos friction module with the High Energy 3-4 clutch pack, a 22-piece steel module, a 3-piece molded piston set, a Borg Warner 2-1/4 inch reverse band, a 12-piece bushing kit, a thrust washer kit, an overhaul gasket and seal kit, and a deep-pan filter. It fits the late 4L60E behind small blocks and Vortec engines in Silverado and Sierra 1500, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Express and Savana vans, and Cadillac Escalade.

The important detail is the 2004-up split. GM changed the input housing and the 3-4 clutch stackup around 2004, so a kit cut for the earlier 1993-2003 cases will fight you on clutch count and clearance. This is the later revision, so the frictions, steels and pistons match a 2004-and-newer 4L60E without mixing part generations.

On the bench this is a straight full overhaul. The molded pistons drop in where the older bonded pistons used to come apart, the High Energy 3-4 frictions are the part that usually cooks first when a 4L60E starts slipping in third and fourth, and the new Borg Warner band and deep-pan filter finish the reverse and fluid side. Air-check each clutch drum and the servo after you stack it, set 3-4 clutch clearance to spec before the input housing goes together, and pre-soak the new frictions in Dexron VI so they are not dry on first apply.

This is the kit for a slipping or burnt 4L60E that needs a real rebuild rather than a patch. Common builder notes: a 4L60E that has spun the forward sprag may also want a new sprag, and a truck that overheated the trans usually needs a fresh torque converter so old debris does not circulate back through the new frictions.
