Ford AOD Master Rebuild Kit with Clutches and Band 1980-1993

This is a master rebuild kit for the Ford AOD four-speed automatic, 1980 through 1993. It combines a Precision overhaul kit (TED-002410) with the friction plates, overdrive band, front pump bushing and pan filter, so a rebuilder has the soft parts and the wear parts for a full teardown without chasing each piece separately.

The AOD shows its age in a few predictable ways: a slipping or missing overdrive from a worn band and tired direct clutches, harsh or delayed engagement from hardened seals, and fluid leaks at the pump and case. On high-mile Mustang, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Town Car and F-150 applications the original frictions are usually glazed and the seals have lost their shape. Replacing only the gasket set leaves the burnt frictions in place, which is why a kit with clutches is the better starting point for a real overhaul.

On the bench, tear the unit down, clean the case and valve body, and inspect the steels, drums and planetary for heat damage (steels are not in this kit). Soak the new frictions in ATF before assembly, install the new pump bushing and check clearance, set the new overdrive band and adjust it to spec, then rebuild each clutch pack and check clearances as you stack them. Seals, sealing rings and gaskets from the overhaul kit go in as the unit is reassembled, and the new filter goes in last.

Fits 1980-1993 Ford AOD transmissions (2WD filter). Several of the frictions are also shared with AODE and 4R70W units, but the gasket set and filter are for the early AOD, so confirm your transmission before ordering.
