Ford AOD Lokar Black Kickdown Cable Kit KD-2AODU

The Lokar KD-2AODU is a black-housing kickdown cable kit for the Ford AOD four-speed overdrive automatic. The AOD was built with a throttle valve rod or cable that ties throttle opening to TV pressure, and that connection sets line pressure and shift timing. When an AOD goes behind a carbureted small block, an aftermarket EFI setup, or into a car it did not come in, the factory linkage rarely lines up, and this cable is the usual fix.

The housing is braided over a purpose-extruded liner rather than brake hose, so the inner cable keeps sliding freely through years of underhood heat, and the aluminum end fittings use a ferrule so the cable does not fray where it clamps. The U suffix means it is cut to fit: route the cable, trim it to length, and terminate it with the supplied hardware.

Why it matters: the AOD is unforgiving of TV adjustment. Too little TV travel drops line pressure, and the transmission shifts late-soft or slips, which is how AODs lose the overdrive band and direct clutch. After install, adjust so TV travel tracks throttle opening all the way to wide open, with no slack at idle, then road test for firm shifts and no flare between gears. Check the adjustment again after the first few heat cycles.
