4L60E Clutch Spring Compressor and Teflon Seal Tool Set

Four-piece bench set for tearing down and reassembling a GM 4L60E. It bundles the T-0158 universal clutch drum spring compressor, the T-0151 rear low/reverse clutch spring compressor, the J-36418-C turbine shaft Teflon seal installer and resizer, and the ST-1503 stator shaft Teflon seal installer and resizer. Coverage runs across the whole family: 700-R4, 4L60, 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L70E and 4T80-E, with the T-0151 also fitting the older TH250, 250C, 350 and 350C. The T-0158 is not model specific and handles most clutch drums up to 6 inches, so it carries over to Chrysler and Ford drums when a different case lands on the bench.

The two compressors solve the same problem at opposite ends of the unit. Set the drum on the T-0158, run the screw down until the return spring assembly clears the snap ring groove, then pick the ring out with a small screwdriver and back the screw off slowly. The T-0151 engages the lugs in the case for the low/reverse piston and pushes the return spring far enough to expose that snap ring without prying against the case. Doing either job with a press and a piece of pipe is how techs launch snap rings across the shop and gouge the drum bore.

The seal tools are the part people skip and pay for later. Teflon rings on the 4L60E turbine shaft and stator shaft go on stretched, and if they are not resized back down they will not slide into the pump bore and the converter hub - you either shear a ring on assembly or crush it and end up with a low-line-pressure unit that has to come back out. The J-36418-C and ST-1503 sleeves push the ring on square, then the resizer cup squeezes it back to bore diameter before the shaft goes in. They replace Atec Trans-Tool T-1574, T-1574-Long, T-1574-M, T-1503 and #39SS.

Tools are steel and aluminum alloy. This set is for the 1982-up 700-R4 through 4L70E gear train; it does not include the pump alignment or bushing drivers you would need for a full rebuild kit.
