Genuine Nissan NS-3, part number 999MP-NS300P, five quarts. This is the OEM fluid, not an equivalent. On a Jatco CVT the belt-and-pulley clamping force depends entirely on the friction characteristics of the fluid, which is why Nissan calls out NS-3 by name rather than a generic CVT spec. Run the wrong fluid and you get belt slip, shudder on light throttle, and a whine that shows up long before the unit actually fails.

Five quarts covers a standard drain-and-fill on most Nissan and Infiniti CVT applications that call for NS-3. A pan drop and refill typically takes three to four quarts depending on the unit, so a single jug does one service with margin; a full fluid exchange on a larger application will take more than one. Check the fluid level hot using the Nissan procedure and the CVT fluid temperature reading, not a cold dipstick eyeball - CVT level is temperature-critical and overfilling causes aeration.

NS-3 uses a specific friction modifier and additive package for stable pulley clamping, plus low-temperature fluidity so the unit is not harsh on a cold start and holds line pressure in hot weather. Do not substitute NS-2 in an NS-3 application; they are not interchangeable, and the fluid change interval on these units is short enough that running the correct one is the cheapest maintenance you will do on the vehicle.
