Turns the output shaft spanner nut on 2011-up Ford 6R140 TorqShift transmissions with a 1/2 inch breaker bar. Replaces T-1260 and T-1260AC.
The output shaft on a Ford 6R140 TorqShift is held by a large slotted spanner nut that Ford installs with thread locker and torques to 148 ft-lbs. There is no way to get it off with hand tools you already own. The factory answer is service tool T-1260 or T-1260AC, and this is a direct replacement for both. It fits 2011 and newer 6R140 units behind the 6.7L Power Stroke and the gas V8s in F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 and the F-53 and F-59 chassis.
On the bench it slides over the output shaft and drops into the slots on the nut, then takes a 1/2 inch square drive breaker bar or torque wrench. The 8.375 inch body clears the shaft so the tool sits square on the nut instead of walking off it under load. It is reinforced steel and it is a hand tool only. Do not put an impact on it, the shock load is what splits a spanner like this.
Sequence that works: heat the nut with a torch first so the factory thread locker lets go, then break it loose. Trying to muscle it cold is how you round the slots or twist the tool. On reassembly clean the threads, apply fresh thread locker and hand-torque the nut to 148 ft-lbs (200 Nm). The nut itself is not included, this is the driving tool.
The problem it solves is the one every shop hits the first time they open a 6R140 for output shaft, rear planetary or extension housing work. Without the right spanner the usual fallback is a brass punch and a hammer, which chews the nut slots, drives debris into the case and often means buying a new nut on top of the repair.
