T-0158 Clutch Drum Spring Compressor, Heavy-Duty Steel Bench-Mount Transmission Tool

Every automatic transmission has clutch drums with a return spring or spring pack held down by a snap ring, and getting that ring in or out means holding the spring compressed while you work. Do it by hand or with a shop press set up wrong and you have a stacked spring under real load looking for a way to launch across the shop. This is the dedicated tool that does the job the safe way.

The drum sits on the base, the compressor arm bears straight down on the spring retainer, and the screw feed lets you compress it in a controlled way until the snap ring groove is clear. Pull or seat the ring, back the screw off slowly, and the spring releases without drama. The legs are long enough to reach down into deep drums, and the whole thing bolts to a bench or clamps in a vise so both hands stay free for the ring.

It is adjustable across the common drum sizes up to six inches, so one tool covers a lot of ground: GM, Chrysler, Ford, and Turbo-style units all pass through it.
