The stock stamped-steel transmission pan does exactly one job: hold the fluid. It does nothing to cool it, it has no drain plug, and every fluid change means breaking the whole pan loose and wearing whatever spills out. This finned aluminum pan fixes all three. The cast fins pull heat out of the fluid the way a heat sink does, so on a tow rig or a truck that works hard the transmission runs cooler where it counts, and aluminum sheds that heat far better than the steel pan it replaces.
