Honda CVT HCF-2 Transmission Fluid, Case of 12 Quarts

Twelve one-quart bottles of Idemitsu CVT fluid built to Honda's HCF-2 specification. Idemitsu is the same blender behind Honda's factory-bottled CVT fluid (Honda part 08200-HCF2), so this is the fluid the transmission was filled with on the assembly line, bought by the case instead of one bottle at a time off the parts counter.

HCF-2 is the later Honda CVT spec and it is not the same as HMMF. Putting HMMF into a transmission that calls for HCF-2 is the usual cause of the low-speed shudder and belt judder people chase after a fluid change. Check the dipstick tube label or the service manual before you fill: the HCF-2 vehicles are the 2013-up Accord with the 4-cylinder CVT, 2014-up Civic, 2015-up CR-V and Fit, 2016-up HR-V, and 2019-up Insight. Honda's dual-pump 4WD rear diff fluid and the older HMMF applications are separate fluids - do not substitute either way.

A drain-and-fill on most of these boxes pulls roughly three to three and a half quarts through the pan drain plug, so a twelve-quart case covers about three services on one car, or a triple drain-and-fill on a neglected unit where you want to exchange most of the old fluid without dropping a line. Honda CVTs are sensitive to fluid condition and there is no serviceable filter on the outside of the case, so short interval fluid changes are the maintenance that actually keeps the belt and pulleys alive. Fill through the dipstick tube, run the level check at operating temperature per the service procedure, and do not overfill.

Case is factory sealed, 23.8 lb shipped. Bottles are standard one-quart with the pour spout neck, so a fluid transfer pump threads on directly if you are filling from under the hood.
