Genuine Honda 08200-HCF2 fluid for second-generation Honda and Acura CVTs - the only fluid Honda specs for these boxes, so shift belt engagement and cold-start noise stay right.
Second-generation Honda CVTs are unforgiving about fluid. These are the pushbelt continuously variable transmissions found in the 2013-and-up Accord, 2014-up Civic, HR-V, Fit, Vezel and related Acura models, and Honda calls out HCF-2 by name for them. HCF-2 is not interchangeable with the older CVT-1 (08200-9006) fluid or with any conventional ATF - putting the wrong fluid in a second-gen CVT causes belt slip, a droning or juddering feel on light throttle, and accelerated pulley wear. This is the genuine Honda 08200-HCF2, part number 08200-HCF2, one U.S. quart (946 ml).
The fluid is a full-synthetic formulation with the exact friction characteristics the CVT belt and pulleys need to grip without chatter. Owners who switch back to genuine HCF-2 after an aftermarket fill typically report the cold-start noise quieting down and the smooth, slip-free feel returning. Because the pushbelt clamps against the pulley faces under enormous load, the metal-to-metal friction coefficient of the fluid is the whole ballgame here - it is why Honda does not approve a universal CVT fluid for these transmissions.
On the bench or in the driveway, a proper HCF-2 service is a drain-and-fill: pull the drain bolt, let it fully drain, reinstall with a fresh crush washer, and refill through the dipstick tube to the specified level with the transmission at temperature. Most second-gen CVTs take roughly 3.5 to 4 quarts for a single drain-and-fill, so plan quantity accordingly and repeat the service if you are recovering a neglected unit. Ships from the USA.
