ZF 6HP26 Transmission Service Kit with Pan Filter and ATF

Full service kit for the ZF 6HP26 six-speed automatic. Kit part number 333 903 KIT. Contents: the oil pan with the filter built into it, the pan gasket, the filter O-ring, a new drain plug, a new fill plug, 21 pan bolts, two oil pan magnets, six 1-liter bottles of German-made ATF, and a manual fluid transfer pump to get the fluid in through the side fill port.

On the 6HP26 the filter is not a separate serviceable element - it is integrated into the pan, so the pan is the filter and the pan comes off once. That is why this kit is built around a complete pan assembly rather than a filter and a reusable pan. The two magnets go in the new pan to catch steel; put them back in if you value the next 60,000 miles. All 21 pan bolts are included so you are not reusing stretched hardware on a pan that has to seal against a hot aluminum case.

ZF called this box sealed for life and it is not. The failure sequence is predictable: at 70-100k the fluid oxidizes, the mechatronic sleeve and valve bores wear, and you get a harsh or delayed 1-2, a shudder holding converter lockup at light throttle, and eventually a limp-home for gear ratio monitoring. Service it before that and you buy the unit another 100k. Work it warm and level: drain through the plug, drop the pan, clean the sealing face, fit the new pan with the O-ring and gasket, torque the 21 bolts in sequence, then fill through the side fill plug with the pump and set the level in the 30-40 C fluid-temperature window with a scan tool on trans temp.
