4L60E Aluminum Transmission Oil Pan GM 24229658

This is a cast aluminum oil pan for the GM 4L60E family, built to replace GM part numbers 24229658, 24215535 and 24209295. It uses the standard 4L60E pan rail and bolt pattern, so it drops into the same spot as the factory stamped steel pan with the stock gasket and filter.

Fitment covers the 4L60E, 4L65E and 4L70E in Chevy Silverado 1500 1999-2007 and Silverado 1500 Classic 2007, Tahoe 1998-2009, S10 1998-2003, Blazer 1998, Astro 1999-2004, Avalanche 2007-2008, Express 1500/2500 and Trailblazer 2003-2009, Cadillac Escalade 2002-2006, GMC Yukon 2000-2008 and Yukon XL 2004-2008, Sierra 1500 1999-2008, Sierra 2500 2000, Envoy 2002-2009, Sonoma 1998-2004, Safari 1999-2004 and Canyon 2007-2011. Check your old pan against the 24229658 number before ordering.

The usual reason to put one of these on is a pan that will not seal any more. Stamped steel pans get dinged by road debris, rust through around the drain area on salted trucks, and pull the rail out of flat around the bolt holes when someone overtightens them, which leaves a seep at the gasket you can never chase down. A cast aluminum pan has a thicker, stiffer rail that stays flat against the case, and it does not rot from the outside in.

On the bench: drop the old pan, scrape both surfaces clean, and set the new pan with a fresh 4L60E gasket and filter. Run the pan bolts up in a criss-cross pattern to GM's 97 in-lb spec and do not go past it, since the whole point of the aluminum rail is that it stays true. Filter, gasket and drain plug are not included.
