4L60E Rebuild Kit 1997-2003 Frictions Steels Pistons

This is a complete teardown-to-reassembly kit for the 1997-2003 GM 4L60E. It covers the overhaul gasket and seal set (pan gasket, O-rings, lip seals, sealing rings), the full friction plate set, the matching steel plate set, three bonded pistons, the 2-4 flex band, the pump bushing, and a deep-pan filter. That is everything a standard rebuild consumes short of hard parts, so you are not stopping halfway through the job to order a seal you are missing.

Fitment is the 1997-2003 4L60E and 4L65E: Chevrolet Astro, Blazer, S10, Camaro, Express 1500, Silverado 1500, Suburban 1500, Tahoe, Trailblazer and Trailblazer EXT; GMC Jimmy, Sonoma, Safari, Savana 1500, Sierra 1500, Envoy and Envoy XL; Cadillac Escalade, Escalade EXT and Escalade ESV; Pontiac Firebird. The 1997-up unit uses the bonded 3-4 piston and the later sun shell design, so do not cross this kit into a 1993-1996 case without checking the piston and shell first.

Bench order that keeps you out of trouble: replace the 3-4 clutch pack first - that is the pack that burns up on a high-mileage 4L60E and puts clutch material through the cooler, so flush the lines and the cooler before the unit goes back in. Soak the new frictions in ATF for at least 15 minutes before they go on the drum. Set the 2-4 band with a new anchor pin position, air-check every circuit through the case passages before the pan goes on, and measure clutch pack clearance rather than assuming the selective came out right. And use the pump bushing in the kit - a worn bushing is the reason a freshly rebuilt unit still leaks at the front seal.
