Seven-piece deluxe overhaul kit for 1997-2013 GM 4L60E units: high friction clutch pack, steels, pistons, flex band, pump bushing, filter and gaskets.
This is a complete bench kit for a 1997-2013 GM 4L60E, 4L65E or 4L70E overhaul. Seven line items ship in one box: a red two-tang flex band, a babbitt pump bushing, a deep-pan plastic filter, a high friction clutch pack, a three-piece piston kit, a steel clutch pack, and the overhaul gasket and seal kit. Shipping weight is 12.5 lb. Ordering it as one kit means you are not chasing a missing steel or a band halfway through the rebuild.
The high friction linings are the reason to buy this version over a plain banner kit. A 4L60E that burned the 3-4 clutch pack under towing or a heavy right foot will do it again on stock friction material, because the 3-4 pack in this unit is undersized for the torque most LS trucks make. Higher-coefficient frictions plus fresh steels raise holding capacity without changing the drum or the apply piston, and the bonded pistons in the kit cure the lip-seal leakage that shows up as a soft or slipping 1-2 shift.
Fitment is by build, not just by model code, so confirm two things before you order: pan depth (deep pan versus shallow pan changes the filter), and the clutch count in your 3-4 and forward drums. The 4L60E, 4L65E and 4L70E all fall inside the 1997-2013 range but differ in internal specs, and the unit's ID tag on the case is the authority, not the year of the truck.
Steels and a filter are included, which is not true of every kit sold as a master. Not included: hard parts such as the sun shell, the input housing, the torque converter, or the pump. Plan on replacing the 3-4 apply piston hardware and the reaction sun shell at the same time if the unit came in with no reverse or no 2nd and 4th gear, since those failures usually arrive together.
